My Young Friends Who Have Been Sponsored or Are Seeking Sponsors

To send donations for a child, simply indicate with your donation to Shepherd's Staff by adding “child sponsorship” after my number 6055. Then email me a note indicating which child you care to sponsor. Schools in Uganda, from primary through secondary, begin the school year in early February, and end in late November or early December. The year is divided into 3 terms with a month off between each term. (The needs shown below are monthly for the convenience of the donors.) If a child has not paid at least half of their term’s school fees, they cannot begin class. Final exams are given once per term, at the end of each term. If the child has not paid the entire term’s fees by that time, they are not allowed to write their final exams. If they do not then pass that term, they will flunk the entire school year and have to repeat it (and all the fees). The university level students operate on a semester system, starting in August each year, or February, and the payment system is the same.

Urgent! Eric, Nema, Joel, Margaret, Alice, Tapatio all are in school, but do not have sponsors yet. The school is allowing them to attend with our promises that funds will soon come (by faith!). We need about $85 to keep these kiddos in school to finish out this term/year, all total.

Mukira Joel
DOB: 4-25-2013   Needs a sponsor for the next school year which starts in early February.
School fees/ requirements: $25/month (preschool)
Joel is a very outgoing little boy in school, has great reasoning capacity for his age. This is his second year of preschool, which is the usual routine for Ugandan primary school, 2 years preschool, then kindergarten. He likes to nap on my lap during church services.
Mwebaza Victor “Vicky”
DOB: 10-9-2010   Sponsored!!! School fees paid for a year, until April 2018.
School fees/ requirements: $35/month/month
Has received prizes at school for being such a good organizer. He had a difficult birth and nearly died, so he seems a bit slow in school. Teachers give him private assistance on studies. He is an exceptional drummer.Vicky’s requirements have been pledged.

The cost of his current school year has been covered. He also got help with needed bike repairs, which he uses to travel to school.
Mwesigwa Rhema
DOB: 12-20-2010   Needs a sponsor for the next school year which starts in early February.

Kyomuhende Evelyn “Mercy”
DOB: 6-24-2008   Needs a sponsor for the next school year which starts in early February.

Mercy is in 4th grade and is learning English rapidly. She’s quite fluent which is unusual for a child her age.
Muwanguzi Craig Samuel

School fees/ requirements: $64/month
Samuel started out slow in school but now has become a top student. He’s a very hard worker at home as well as at school.

Senyange Hagin
DOB: 4-2-1999   Needs a sponsor for the next school year which starts in early February.
School fees/ requirements: $185/month
Hagin is in the top 10 of 300 students in his class. He is studying the sciences and thinking of doing engineering. He interprets for me at times, when he's home from boarding school.
Nyombi Isaac “Davis”
DOB: 8-31-1997   Needs a sponsor!
School fees/ requirements: $210/month
Davis started university in August, 2017 and is studying electrical engineering. A sponsor paid the first half of the school cost for the term. However, to keep Davis from losing credit for the entire term of school, Pastor David took $700 from the money he had set aside for roofing his storm-damaged house to pay partial fees for Davis. So now David only has half the money needed for the roofing costs of his house.
Kimanywa Richard “Dr. Richard”
DOB: 1-7-1993   Partially sponsored!$25/month has been pledged through April 2018.
School fees/ requirements: $140/month
$25/month has been pledged for Richard, but he still needs $115/month to meet his school needs. Richard is just starting his 2nd year of veterinary school, a 3-year diploma program. Due to his strong academic talents and lack of family support, I have supported his educational efforts for probably 5 years now. He has a real passion for veterinary medicine and he often provides free services to my cows, and to our pastor’s livestock income generation projects. (October 2017 Update)
Vivian Kubagweri
DOB: ?   Needs a sponsor for the next school year which starts in early February.
School fees/ requirements: $15/month
Vivian recently came to our area from Hoima, in western Uganda, to be raised by her aunt. As I said in a previous KIDS newsletter, she’s an example of poverty breaking up families. But when her uncle was abusive to her, she went to live with another aunt, where she has now settled. This aunt and uncle, who already have a large family, are in one of our income generation projects. They have put Vivian in school, and she works like a maid, helping her aunt with the smaller children and family chores.

Olivia Nantongo
DOB: ?   Needs a sponsor for the next school year which starts in early February.
School fees/ requirements: $30/month
Olivia and her sister Martha live with their elderly grandmother and a young uncle. Their parents abandoned them. The uncle lost his job a few months ago, and as a result, one of the girls is unable to attend school. The uncle works with our church building project, and thanks to him, our latrine was built last year, and the church walls erected. We are encouraging him to learn the business trade, and to start working with chickens as well.

Joseph received a one-time gift! However, it was received too late for him to start school in August. So instead he bought his needed school supplies so that when classes start up again in February, he will have those taken care of, and will only need tuition. I suggested he attend the school orientation anyway, which he did.
